5th Biennial International Conference and Annual Teacher Workshop of the Australian Association of Teachers of Korean (AUATK)

10–12 December 2026, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia


Conference theme: “Sustainability of Korean language education in cultural diversity”

The Australian Association of Teachers of Korean (AUATK) invites individual, panel and workshop presentation proposals from established scholars, early career researchers, postgraduate students and Korean language education practitioners for the 5th AUATK Biennial International Conference and Annual Teacher Workshop, to be held on 10–12 December 2026 at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

This conference and workshop are supported by the 2024 Korean Studies Grant Program of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS-2026-C-009), the Korean Education Centre in Australia and the Korean Studies Centre at the University of Queensland.

This conference will bring together researchers and educators to explore how Korean language education can be sustained and further strengthened in culturally and linguistically diverse contexts. The theme foregrounds long-term viability across educational sectors (universities, schools, community/heritage programs) and highlights sustainable approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, teacher development, policy and community engagement.

Presentation proposal submission

The organisers welcome proposals for research presentations (20 minutes presentation + 10 minutes discussion) and workshop presentations (approximately 50 minutes, depending on the number of presenters) Proposals are invited on, but not limited to, the following areas.

For research presentations:

• Sustainability frameworks, governance and policy for Korean programs across diverse educational contexts.• Learner diversity, equity and culturally sustaining pedagogy in Korean language education.

• Curriculum, assessment and evidence of learning outcomes for long-term program quality and viability.

• Digital and AI-enabled Korean education, focusing on effectiveness, ethics, integrity and scalable innovation.

For workshop sessions:

• Inclusive, classroom-ready teaching strategies for mixed-level and culturally and linguistically diverse cohorts.

• Sustainable assessment and feedback routines that are practical, consistent and workload-aware.

• Teacher toolkits for ethical and integrity-aware use of AI and educational technologies in everyday practice.

• Building sustainable teacher ecosystems through reusable materials, mentoringnetworks and cross-sector partnerships.

Recommended proposal information includes the presentation title, an abstract of approximately 200–300 words, three to five keywords, the presenter’s name and affiliation, a brief bio of 50–100 words, and an indication of whether the proposal is for a research presentation or a workshop session. Conference registration and membership

There will be no registration fees for the conference or the teacher workshop. However, all participants are required to be AUATK members for 2026. Participants may join or renew their AUATK membership when registering for the event (membership fee: A$50 for academics and teachers; A$20 for postgraduate students). Grants

Teachers and postgraduate students travelling interstate to attend the event may apply for a travel or accommodation grant. The number and value of grants will depend on the total number of applicants and available funding. Priority will be given first to participants who are presenting, and within this group, postgraduate students will be prioritised.Interstate and international participants may apply for an accommodation grant. As with the travel grants, the availability and amount of support will be determined by the number of applicants and the funds available, with presenting participants receiving priority. Please note that travel and accommodation grants are mutually exclusive and cannot be held concurrently. All grants are paid as a lump-sum reimbursement at the end of the conference upon presentation of receipts.
