호주한국어교육자협회(AUATK) 창립

호주한국어교육자협회 창립 준비위원장을 맡아 준 뉴사우스웨일즈대 신기현 교수는 2016년 11월 4일 시드니대에서 개최된 호주한국어교육 학술대회에서 아래와 같이 학회 창립을 보고하였다.

신 위원장은 호주 대학의 한국어 프로그램 대표자 6명, 각주 한국어교사협회회장 (AFKOLTA의 부회장들) 6명, 호주한국어교사연합회(AFKOLTA) 회장, 대양주한국학협회장, 그리고 시드니 교육원장의 총 15명을 준비위에 초대하였으며, 준비위의 과제는 협회 창립을 위해 정관(안)을 인준하고 초대 회장을 선출하는 데 있었다.

신 위원장은 10월 28일 소집된 화상 및 전화 회의에서 준비위는 제출된 협회 정관(안)을 다수결로 인준하고, 회장 후보로 추천된 박덕수 교수를 다수결로 초대 회장으로 선출하여, 협회가 창립되었다고 선언하였다.

2016년 11월 18일 박덕수 초대 회장은 정관이 정한대로 회장단을 아래와 같이 선정 발표하였다.

목적 및 주요 사업

본 협회는 호주의 초중등학교 한국어 교사와 대학의 한국어학 전공 교수(통칭 한국어 교육자)를 대표하는 순수 학문적 교육적 목적을 위해 존재하는 비정치 비영리 단체로서, 호주 및 나아가 세계의 한국어 교육 및 연구 발전을 도모하기 위해 아래와 같은 사업을 한다.

• 정기적으로 학술대회, 교사훈련 워크숍 및 세미나를 개최하여, 회원간의 연구 결과와 교육 경험을 공유하는 장을 제공하며,
• 양질의 교재, 교수법, 커리큘럼 개발을 권장하고, 그 결과물을 공유하며,
• 협회 웹사이트를 통한 소식지 등을 발행하여 정보를 공유하고,
• 호주 국내에서 한국어 교육 관련하여 이슈가 생길 때는 한국어 교육자를 대표하는 목소리를 내는 공식 창구의 역할을 하고,
• 본 협회 활동을 위한 자금 조달을 한다.

향후 협회의 주요 사업은 격년제로 홀수해에는 교사연수 워크샵을, 그리고 짝수해에는 학술대회를 개최할 예정이다.

The Establishment of the Australian Association of Teachers of Korean (AUATK)

The Chair of the Preparation Committee for the establishment of the Australian Association of Teachers of Korean (hereafter AUATK), Dr Gi-Hyun Shin of UNSW, announced the establishment of the AUATK on 4 November, 2016 at the Conference on Korean Language Education in Australia held at the University of Sydney.

Dr Shin invited 15 members to the Preparation Committee, who are 6 representatives of Korean language programs in Australian universities, 6 Vice Presidents of AFKOLTA (Australian Federation of Korean Language Associations) who happens to be Presidents of Korean teachers associations in each state, President of AFKOLTA (Australian Federation of Korean Language Teachers of Associations), President of KSAA (Korean Studies Association of Australasia), and Director of Korean Education Centre, Sydney, and called for a meeting on 28 October, 2016. The tasks of the Preparation Committee were the ratification of the constitution of the association, and the election of the first president. Dr Shin declared that the AUATK was established by the ratification of the Constitution presented and the election of the first president Dr Duk-Soo Park by a majority vote in the Skype/telephone meeting held on 28 October, 2016.

The President elect Duk-Soo Park nominated and announced his Executive Committee members like the following on 18 November, 2016:

Secretary Ms Deborah Kyoung-Na Kim (Dennistone Public School/University of Sydney),
Treasurer Ms Anna Kyungja Ahn (University of Sydney), and
Newsletter Editor/Website Manager Dr Nicolas Fraschini (University of Western Australia).

The Purpose and Major Activities of the Association

The purpose of the Association is to promote teaching, learning, study and research of Korean language, language pedagogy and applied linguistics in Australia and beyond. For this overall purpose, activities of the Association shall include, but not be limited to the following:

• Arrange or host conferences, workshops or seminars for teacher training and for the exchange of ideas, information, and experience and research results;
• Encourage the development and dissemination of high quality instructional materials, teaching methods and techniques, and curricula;
• Publish a newsletter, and other items;
• Voice the Association’s concerns related to Korean language education in Australia; and
• Raise funds to carry out the annual activities of the Association.

The major activities of the Association will be biennial professional development teacher training workshops in odd-number years, and biennial conferences in even-number years.
